DuckTales reboot finds its Gizmoduck in Lin-Manuel Miranda

Disney announced this morning that Miranda — who lately collaborated with Walt Disney Animation on Moana —  will voice Fenton Crackshell and his heroic alter-ego Gizmoduck in this year’s new DuckTales show.

The original voice of Gizmoduck was, interestingly enough, the late Hamilton Camp.

Miranda joins a talent-saturated cast on a show that has already received orders for a second season. Watch for DuckTales’ premiere this summer on Disney XD.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Gizmoduck will join the DuckTales gang on May 11, as part of “Duck Week”, a summer-long promotion to celebrate the series’ move to Disney Channel from Disney XD.

Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, Gizmoduck’s alter-ego, is based in part on the original show’s Fenton Crackshell character, but is also significantly influenced by Miranda.

Deadline reported that the revamped character, as envisioned by executive producer Matt Youngberg and co-producer Frank Angones, is “‘Duckburg’s preeminent hero who has Latin roots’ and a ‘brilliant young scientist.’”

Watch the trailer above or read the full write-up from Deadline to find out more about the DuckTales return to television.

New episodes will air on the Disney Channel every Friday in May.

“In the original version, [Fenton] was an accountant, he was fast-talking, he was very sincere, he had a million ideas all at once, not all of them worked out. But he always meant well and he was always fundamentally heroic and wanted to prove his worth. And we said, ‘Well that’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.’”

Rocky & Bullwinkle’s June Foray Dies at 99

The voice actress behind Rocket J. Squirrel, Natasha Fatale and Dudley Do-Right’s own Nell (Rocky & Friends and The Bullwinkle Show) died this morning, Thursday, July 27, 2017, leaving behind a great legacy in animation.

According to Variety, Foray also was vital in the establishment of the Annie Awards (the leading awards group in animation) and ASIFA-Hollywood (“the international animation film society”) and a huge supporter of animation recognition at the Oscars — promoting the maintenance of the Oscar for Best Animated Short as well as the creation of the Best Animated Feature category.

Foray has an impressive résumé on IMDB, as she worked on hundreds of projects.
