“Best Year Ever:” SpongeBob’s 20th Anniversary
Nickelodeon announced plans for new SpongeBob Squarepants projects to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the No. 1 kids’ animated series’ debut on July 17, 1999, Deadline reported today.
First, a CG-spinoff called “Kamp Koral,” following 10-year-old SpongeBob and friends at a summer camp.
“SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral,” Nellie Andreeva reported, adding that SpongeBob alums Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller will co-executive produce the spinoff.
On Friday, July 12, “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout” premieres — an original one-hour special as part of the original SquarePants show.
Finally, Nickelodeon teams up again with Paramount Animation for the theatrical release of “The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge” in 2020. This is the third animated film out of Bikini Bottom, following the original “SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” and 2015′s “Sponge Out of Water.”
